 Black Diamonds are one of the most sought-after diamonds because of their rarest and beauty, as a result they are also one of the most expensive gems because of their scarcity and limited supply. Black Diamonds are rare and can be costly due to the fact that they are not common in nature. Large Black Diamonds are actually made up of millions of other small black crystals. The Black Diamonds are bound together by internal inclusions that hold million of small pieces together versus traditional diamonds that are a single piece. There are Three theories on how Black Diamonds are formed. The First theory states that Black Diamonds are formed through a meteoric impact. The second theory states that Black Diamonds are formed through Radiation. The Third theory states that Black Diamonds are formed through the process of spontaneous Fission of Uranium and Thorium. There are others that believe that the Black Diamond is formed from Outer Space.

Black Diamonds that occur naturally are a Type of Diamond known as a Carbondale and typically are the most expensive and found in Brazil and the Central African Republic. Black Diamonds don’t shine in the traditional sense and actually absorb light instead of reflecting it, their beauty comes from their surface. Some Black Diamonds are opaque in color which are caused by dark inclusions or by color treatment.

The Marange Deposit in Eastern Zimbabwe produces a large amount of Diamonds, several million carats yearly and the color of The Black Diamond is a rarity in nature because the majority of Black Diamonds are darker gray, rust, brown or green. The Source was discovered in 2001 by DeBeers but was not mined until 2006. These particular Black Diamonds are a result of natural irradiation and graphite inclusions exposure to radiation or by inclusion of sulfide, graphite, magnetite, hematite or iron-bearing materials. In some cases, hydrogen-related clouds that extend throughout the stone. Treated Black Diamonds are generally heavily fractured stones that are subjected to high-temperature, low-pressures treatment, which graphitizes the fracture, turning them Black. A large sum of Black Diamonds on the market are artificially made by irradiating or heating ordinary Diamonds. Due to large number of inclusions, Black Diamonds may have numerous cracks so there is a risk that the stone may break apart or splinter, even with the Moh’s Scale harness of 10.

Contrary to White Diamonds, a Black Diamond as previously stated is made up of millions of small black diamond crystals, between which are deposit of graphite, carbon, which are responsible for the Black, Opaque Color. The Black Diamonds are bounded together by internal inclusions that hold millions of small pieces together versus white traditional diamonds which are one piece.  

The Conventional grading system for Traditional White Diamonds cannot be applied to Black Diamonds. Black Diamonds have their own grading system and fall out of the trading grading for Diamonds. Black Diamonds are labeled as AAA, AA, A, with AAA being the highest grade. Their color is evaluated based on GIA’s Color Grading System for colored Diamonds. In addition, the term Fancy Black is used as the only single grade term since there is no variation in the tone and saturation of a Black Diamonds. Consequently, for example GIA (Gemological Institute of America, Inc.) issued a Color Diamond Identification and Origin Report, which states such Diamonds are described as Fancy Black and their color is noted as either natural or treated.

The Black Diamond can be confused with the beautiful, Black Onyx, Obsidian, Black Tourmaline or Black Spinel gemstones. Be certain that you are actually being sold a Black Diamond by purchasing from a qualified and verifiable Jeweler.

Lukewarm water and dish soap as well as cleaning this gem once a week or even frequently with a soft brush is recommended. This Stone should not be placed in an ultrasonic cleaner due to their delicate nature. Black Diamonds shouldn’t be touched too much.

I believe that Divine Mother God and Divine Father God both reflect the Essence and Spirit of a Black Diamond due to their supreme power and authorization.
