Garnet is the birthstone for the month of January. The powers
associated with this Gemstones are light heart, loyalty, enduring attention,
friendship, as well as trust. Garnet is believed to detoxify and purify as well
as increase the metabolism and libido. Garnet also detoxes the blood as well as
the heart and lungs. It is an energizer stone and contributes to passion,
energy and health. Garnet works to balance the Mind and Emotions by helping the
Individual discard outdated ways of thinking and gives ways to a new abundance
and vitality. On the MOHS scale, Garnet has a hardness and toughness of 6.5 to
7.5. Garnet Gemstones can be cleaned in
warm soapy water.
Amethyst is the birthstone for the month of February and is a
purple, violet or red quartz. On the MOHS scale, this birthstone has a hardness
and toughness of 7.0. This gemstone protects the wearer from drunkenness and is
a gemstone of royalty and power. The Intuitive Eye; The Gemstone of Trust,
Intuition and Spirituality. The name Amethyst translates to “not drunken”.
Amethyst properties are not of sobriety but to wealth. Linked to the Crown
Chakra, it is helpful in purifying the Mind and Cleaning the Mind of negative
thoughts.
Amethyst’s ability to expand the higher mind also
enhances one’s creativity and passion. It strengthens the imagination and intuition
and refines the thinking processes. It helps in the assimilation of new ideas,

Aquamarine is the birthstone for the month of March. This
gemstone represents unity, faithfulness, courage, purity and creates water of
the sea. Referred to as the tranquilizer, fluidity, soothing, go with the flow
gemstone. Aqua=Water and Marine=Sea. Linked to ancient water kingdoms and known
for its anti-aging effects. Aquamarine is also known for enhancing feelings of
peacefulness by encouraging inner strengthen and bravery is whatever the
situation. On the MOHS scale, Aquamarine has a hardness of 7.5 to 8.0. Warm
soapy water is recommended for cleaning of Aquamarine.
Diamond is the birthstone for the month of April. This
gemstone represents enduring love, spirituality, protection, courage, peace,
reconciliation, healing, strength, gives power and has the highest Mors’
Hardness of 10. The Diamond is considered a crystal of Light or The Stone of
Light. A spiritual stone, a symbol of perfection and illumination, which
activates the Crown and Etheric Chakras. (1) . Diamonds are known as the
immortal part of the self-personnel identification with the infinite and
oneness with God, Peace and Wisdom. The Diamond is a stone of Light; an idea
prism. Diffusing all the colors of the spectrum and are perfect transducer and
heightens one’s psychic powers. They are also great conductors and amplifiers
of energy, absorbing thoughts and feelings, then radiating them outward.
Diamonds carries a high frequency energy that stimulates and opens all the

faithfulness, rebirth, Love, and rarest. The Emerald is a seeker of Love and
revealer of truth. Referred to as the Stone of Successful Love; it open and
nurtures the Heart and Heart Chakra. This stone embodies unity, compassion and
unconditional love. A stone associated with the eyes and sight, as well as
wisdom, enhancing memory and increasing mental clarity.
The Emerald is a strong healer of the physical heart and
offers emotional support and is a crystal which clears and strengthen one’s
condition to Divine Love and sustaining one on their spiritual journey. The
Emerald is considered a growth crystal. On the MOHS scale it has a hardness and
toughness of 7.5 to 8.0. It is estimated that over 90% of Emeralds are
fracture-filled, therefore it is not risky to clean them ultrasonically or with
steam. Using warm, soapy water is the best cleaning method for Emeralds.
Pearls and Alexandrite is the birthstone for the month of
June. These gemstones represent purity, harmony, humanity, love and sensuality.
The gemstone Alexandrite will strengthen your intuition, boost your creativity,
confidence and unleash your imagination. A good stone for those that have no
self-discipline; It offers hope and encouragement. It is a stone of prosperity;
luck and longevity and strengthens your willpower and dreams. It encourages
love and romance. Alexandrite can improve blood circulation by purifying the
blood and strengthening the blood vessels. It is also a detoxing stone and
assist with ridding the body of toxins and impurities. Alexandrite is

Pearls are the only gemstone in the world created by a living
organism. Pearls are a symbol of innocence and purity in addition, it is a
gemstone of the goddess. Allowing you to connect with your inner goddess and
obtain ultimate feminine energy. Pearls can be identified as color
modification, filing or coating and natural, cultured imitation or assembled. Due
to their delicate nature, Pearls are only 2.5 on the MOHS scale. Pearls should
never be cleaned in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner. It is safe to use warm,
soapy water for occasional cleaning, if the Pearls are strung, make sure the
string in dry before wearing. After wearing Pearls, it is best to wipe with a
clean, soft cloth before storing away.
Ruby is the birthstone for the month of July and considered
the King of gems, love, health and wisdom. It is the most valuable gemstone.
Sapphires is in the Ruby Family. The Orient, described The Ruby as “A Drop of
Heart’s Blood of Mother’s Earth.” It is referred to as the leader of gems,
considered the stone of love, energy, passion, power and a zest for life. It is
also known as the stone of courage. An individual possessing a Ruby can walk
through life without fear of evil or misfortune. Rubies can detox the body and
blood and treat fevers, diseases and restricted blood flow. On the MOHS SCALE,
Rubies have a hardness of 9.0. Clean Rubies with warm soapy water. Ultrasonic
and steam cleaning are usually safe for untreated, heat-treated and lattice
diffusion treated stones. Rubies which are fracture-filled, cavity-filled or
dyed material should only be cleaned with a damp cloth.

Peridot is the birthstone for the month of August. This
gemstone represents strength and the promises of new growth, brings power,
magical powers, protects against nightmares. Peridot is the natural gem of
Egypt and considered the gem of the Sun and referred to as an Evening Emerald.
Peridot has been considered to be an aid in friendship and supposedly frees the
mind of envious thoughts. Peridot protects the wearer from the evil eye and is
credited for bring happiness and good cheer, attracting lovers and
strengthening the eyes as well as treating psychological effects. It is a stone
of lightness that counters the effects of negative emotions. Peridot is a stone
that supports emotional balance, security and inner peace. It also helps to
relieve depression and used in promoting sleep. It also cleanses and activates
the heart and creates a feeling of well-being; dissolves emotional tensions and
brings balance to the system. On the MOHS scale of hardness, Peridot is a 7.0. Warm,
soapy water is the best method for cleaning Peridot. Ultrasonic and steam
cleaners are not recommended.
Sapphire is the birth stone for the month of September. This
gemstone represents loyalty and trust. It also represents purity of the stone
and protect those around you. A highly protective gemstone, which helps
protects against enemies, evil eye and jealousy. Sapphire comes in a variety of
colors, such as Black, Green, Orange, Pink, Violet, White and Yellow. Sapphire
is extraordinary for calming and focusing the mind, allowing the release of
mental tension and unwanted thoughts. Sapphire will assist you with on staying on
your spiritual path. Blue Sapphire is popular with Reiki Healers and is a stone
of Love, Commitment and Fidelity. It simulates the Throat Chakra; the voice of
the body. Blue Sapphire activates the unconscious level of the mind. On the
MOHS scale, Sapphires have a hardness of 9.0. Warm, soapy water is always safe.

Tourmaline and Opal are the birthstones for the month of
October. Tourmaline represents emotional expression, warmth passion and fosters

receptive stone which means soothing, calming, inward and magnetic, promoting
meditation, spirituality, wisdom, mystical and offers strong calming effects
that will offer release from stress. Tourmaline promotes kindness, and
tolerance and assist you with achieving balance. It is a stone that strengthens
your spirit, conquers your fears and helps you to face them. The healing powers
of Tourmaline are well documented, and this crystal is regenerative and
nurturing. The MOHS scale for Tourmaline is 7.0 for hardness. Warm, soapy water
is best method for cleaning Tourmaline. The use of ultrasonic and steam
cleaners is not recommended.
Opal represents emotional balance and spiritual growth. It is
associated with Love and passion and considered a seductive stone. Opal is a delicate and soft stone, rating a 5.5 to 6.5 on
the hardness scale. It is
usually milky and translucent. Opal is a hardened silica gel containing 5-20%
water; Some opals may crack if allowed to dry out. Among the ancients, opal was a symbol of
fidelity and assurance, and in later history it became associated with
religious emotional prayer. It was believed to have a strong therapeutic value
for diseases of the eye, and when worn as an amulet, it would make the wearer
immune from disease as well as increase the powers of the eyes and the mind.
(3) Furthermore, many believed that to the extent the colors of red and green
were seen, the wearer would also enjoy the therapeutic powers of those stones.
The only safe way to clean Opal is with warm, soapy water.

Topaz or Citrine are the birthstone for the month of
November. This gemstone represents strengths and intelligent, constancy,
loyalty, friendship, promises of love and fidelity.
Topaz and Citrine are known for their calming energies and
comes in a rainbow of colors. Citrine is awarded for its beautiful yellow and
orange gradation of colors. Through the process of irradiation and heating
Topaz comes in a variety of colors especially the vast majority of Blue Topaz.
Topaz comes from the Sanskrit Word which means “Fire”. The ancient Greeks
believe that Topaz gave them strength. The people of India believed that Topaz
if worn above the heart encourages long life and intelligence. Citrine has
often been confused with the Gemstone Topaz and as a result Citrine people
though it has the same powers as Topaz. Citrine derives from the French word
“Lemon” and today most of the Citrine in the marketplace results from the heat
treatment of Amethyst. On the Mohs scale, Citrine is a 7 for hardness and
toughness. It’s important to avoid steam or ultrasound for cleaning Topaz.
Warm, soapy water works best.
Turquoise, Black Onyx, and Zircon are the birthstone for the
month of December. Turquoise opens communication and clarity of thoughts. Turquoise
is a semi-translucent to opaque gem and is though to possess many beneficial
powers such as guaranteeing health and good fortune.
This gem is also believed to protect the wearer from falling
(especially off horses) and it is also known for breaking into several pieces
at the onset of a disaster. Hindu mystics retain that seeing a Turquoise after
belonging the New Moon ensured fantastic wealth. Turquoise should never be
cleaned with steam or ultrasonic cleaners and should be cleaned with warm,
soapy water. Heat or solvents will damage or destroy the surface of Turquoise.
Some scholars believe that Zircon comes from the Arabic word,
Zarkun which means “Cinnabar” or “Vermilion.” Other scholars believe Zircon is
from the Persian word Zargun or “Gold Colors.” During the middle ages, this
December birthstone was thought to respite one into a deep sleep and scare off
evil spirits. Zircon represents prosperity, honor, respect and wisdom. Zircon is often located near Sapphire sources.
Zircon ranges from 6 to 7.5 on the Mons Scale of hardness. It is heat treated
to produce shades of Blue and colorless varieties as well as orange, yellow and
red. Zircon should be clean in warm, soapy water and ultrasonic and steam
cleaners are not recommended.
Black Onyx presents personal magnetism, considered a stone of
inner strength, grounding mediation stone, protection against enemies, balances
emotions, assist with establishing new habits and getting rid of old habits and
blocks negative influences and offers protection. Onyx is a protective stone
when facing adversaries in battles of conflicts of all kinds, or while hurrying
down a dark street late at night. Black Onyx also defense against negativity
consciously directed towards you; it offers the gift of wise decisions. The
best method for cleaning Black Onyx is in warm soapy water. (4)
